Emet Surgical’s founder researched the potential causes of his cancer recurrence and identified a frequent problem, ineffective communication between surgeons and pathologists when performing intraoperative frozen section exams. He set out to develop solutions and establish a team to bring them to market.

Medical literature contains many articles describing communication problems between the operating room and pathology lab. Emet Surgical’s research identified tumor margin marking as a key factor.
Many margin marking techniques exist but when intraoperative pathology is used, none of those techniques effectively bring the surgeon and pathologist to the same page of the book. For that matter, none fully integrate with Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems.

No New Training and Using Common Surgical Instruments
Surgeons and pathologists Emet Surgical consulted shared they have little time for training and no desire to learn how to use new instruments. They asked us to develop an easy-to-use tumor margin marking system, focused on enabling better communication they could begin using immediately.
